Yesterday we went to the Western Wall, one of the holiest places for the Jewish people. Thousands of people (including President Obama and the Pope) come to pray here daily. The wall is made up of the most amazing stones. The enormous bottom ones were put there by King Herod and the smaller ones at the top by the later Muslim rulers. The large stones can weigh more than 2 tons each. Though the wall is very tall, it is estimated that there are another 40 or so layers of stones down below the surface, that have not been uncovered by archaelogists.
