Scrappy Mountain Majesties

You may have seen this pattern on Bonnie Hunter's website, Quiltville.

I love this pattern, Scrappy Mountain Majesties. I pieced the blocks about two years ago, on a cold and snowy day. It was wonderful just to stay inside, drink hot cocoa, and put together the quilt. I didn't realize I had so many blue fabrics, but I did. I discovered I had so many blue fabrics, I could probably make a dozen of these! Actually, since I pieced this one, I have made another three blue scrap quilts. (and there is still lots of blue fabric left.) I guess I have a "thing" about blue fabric!
I have to send a big "thank you" to my friend Max, over at Quilter's Emporium in Houston, Texas. Max helped me pick out the fabrics for the borders and the backing of this quilt. I didn't get a good picture of the back, but it's a lovely blue-grey Civil War reproduction. Thanks, Max! You did it again!
Am having a great time doing the zig-zag quilting. It's more fun than I thought it would be. At first I was going to just quilt 1/4" away from every seam, but that started to get tedious pretty quickly, so I ripped out all the stitches I had put in. The zig-zags are going really quickly. I hope to have the quilt done by next week, and it will be just in time, as some cold weather is moving in. This morning when we woke up, the mountain was covered with cloud. It was impossible to see out the windows. By around 6:30, it was starting to move off the mountain, and the sun came out. But that is one of the things I love about winter in Jerusalem--the clouds all around the house and covering all the hilltops around us. In the summer, there is hardly ever a cloud in the sky. But in the winter, we get beautiful cloud formations, and fabulous early-morning cloud cover.

I remember this top, Susan! What is zig zag quilting? Can you post a close up?

Hi Susan, Your area sounds magnificent. I've always wanted to visit Jerusalem and other sites in Israel. I love your blue quilt!
