I Can't Believe It!

I can't believe it. My Baby is gone. Little Menucha has spread her wings and taken off on her own Adventure. After a week of shopping furiously to try to get everything on her camp list, days of sewing and ironing on labels to all of her possessions (culminating in a fine new burn on my arm), she finally left for camp last night. Since she was travelling as an Unaccompanied Minor, a Continental representative took charge of her at the airport, and I had to say goodbye to her at Security. Had myself a little cry, sat and sewed on a quilt binding in a waiting area in the airport until the plane had definitely taken off, and went home.
What a quiet house it is this morning! This is the first time Menucha has gone away from home in all of her nearly 14 years, and it is strange to be without her.
But I will try to have some fun while she is gone ;-).

Okay, a correction is in order. As you can see, the original Karen K. Stone pattern (here's a picture of it) was called Lady Liberty goes to Hawaii, not California, as I said in my post the other day.

I am making my version in such bright colors, I called it Lady Liberty goes to California. I like it both ways, really. After looking at the pattern instructions, I saw that it called for 125 different fabrics. Have the feeling that that's why I quit after 16 blocks...I just didn't have that many fabrics, and when I started this I wasn't able to afford to buy enough fat quarters to do it up properly. I like a small version anyways. Will just have to decide on some cute borders.

Have a bright and sunny day!

After seeing your beautiful blocks, I got on Amazon & ordered her book. I have never made a "New York Beauty" type quilt, but it's on my TO DO list. One of the last American Patchwork & Quilting Magazines had one done in Red/White & Blue. I have made all the papers to make one..........but STILL have not got one started. (Too many other projects!)

Do you have any tips for sewing the curved seams? I have one of htose fancy "curve master" attachments...........

very fun. I love the idea of those NY beauties, but haven't convinced myself to make one yet, so I'll admire yours for now.
