I started this little doll quilt last Sunday and it was fast and easy. The pattern was from Kathleen Tracy's darling book, American Doll Quilts.
The whole thing was made from scraps, and the blue and white gingham border was made from a thrifted shirt I happened to have that worked perfectly.
I made a single-fold binding, which I haven't done in ages, but it was just right for this little piece. As I was spraying the quilt markings with water to make them disappear, one of the red fabrics began to run, an ominous sign indeed. A quick wash in the machine with some Color Catchers, and the problem was solved.
One thing I must add: as I was quilting this the other night, with a soothing cup of Sleepytime tea next to me, I realized must how much I love hand quilting. It never fails to calm, to produce a sense of serenity, and to draw me back to a less-hectic era. What a blessing this art is!

It's a very nice piece. I like that you reused material from something you already had. And with the economy in the shape it's in, I'm learning to re-purpose and make do instead of adding to the pile of fabric I have. After all, that's how the early quilter did it...used what they had to make something new.
