Our Special Project

Before my daughter came with her family from Houston, I ordered a little quilt kit from my friend Sharon over at Daisy Cottage Quilting. I {heart} Sharon. She is the most fun lady I know, not to mention (can't leave this out!) a fellow St. Louisan. We St. Louie gals have to stick together, right?
Anyhoo, getting back to the little kit. I got a bug in my head that I would teach my oldest granddaughter Rivky how to quilt. After all, she would be here with me for a month. So why not? Well, it's true that I had taught the girls how to hand-sew last year, and we made some adorable little felt purses. But this time I had my work cut out for me. Because I was going to teach Rivky everything: how to use the sewing machine, how to cut the fabric, how to put the layers together, how to do the binding. Well, some of that did happen. However we were so busy doing other fun stuff that I didn't get a chance to teach her everything in the syllabus. But she did learn a whole lot and here she is with her little quilt. Isn't it just the cutest thing?

We had such a great time working on the little quilt. After Rivky left, I really missed our time together. So I decided to use the leftover fabric to make some mug rugs for my BFF's Etty and Sara. Didn't they come out darling? I love that fabric. It's Flower Sugar by Lucien. Wish I had some more of it. I could just use it for the rest of my life and be happy.
Posted by PicasaHope you like your mug rugs, ladies. They were the first ones I ever made and now I'm hooked!

Yes, I love my new mug rug and I enjoy seeing it whenever I sit down at my sewing machine. I'm careful not to let it get dirty. Thanks so much. Your granddaughters mini quilt is just the thing. I hope she will be hooked and that special bond of quilting between grandmother and granddaughter will develop.
Love, Etty

I love the picture of your granddaughter with her quilt! She looks so happy and proud. How lucky she is to have you to teach her all that you know!
