When I was at Etty's yesterday, she had out her folder full of patterns she has collected. One of them was the pattern for this quilt from Bonnie Hunter at Quiltville.com. When I saw it, it reminded me that I had this quilt top lying on a shelf. It had been there for a couple of years, don't ask me why. So today I pulled it out, pieced the back together, and put in at least 300 pins to baste it. 
This quilt is a good example of a scrappy pattern that can be made with the ugliest fabrics and still come out nice despite them. If you have enough different fabrics, and a cute pattern, those fabrics will just blend into the crowd. For example, a lot of the fabrics in this top are straight out of the 1970s and 1980s. If you liked those calicos from those days, raise your hand. My hand is definitely not raised. I know that Barbara Brackman is now bringing out lines of reproduction 70s and 80s fabrics, but I was there when they happened, and they were pretty awful at the time. At least in my view. What's your opinion on this? Do you remember those old fabrics?

Remember? I'm still working to use up those same fabrics from my stash. It's going down a bit but I still have a lot more to use up.
I agree the 1980's prints where pretty bad, but I used them when I started quilting. They bring back memories. Your scrappy quilt will be beautiful.
