Final Finish for 2009!

Finished up the binding on my Spiderweb lap quilt last night. I like to photograph quilts outdoors in the sunshine, but the morning was gray and rainy and there was no outdoor picture-taking. So I just laid it over the bed, and took some pictures.

This one was hand quilted, with a line quilted through every strip, including all the "piano keys" of the border. Sometimes you think that hand-quilting something will take forever, then you realize it's finished! That was what happened with this one.
The strips were mostly scraps left over from other quilts, and some were pieces of fabric given to me by other quilters. I really like looking at all the fabrics and remembering where each one came from. In her book on scrap quilting, Roberta Horton talks about the "official rule" that a scrap quilt needs to have at least 75 different fabrics. Well, this one certainly does!

After the top was pieced, I wondered if I should have made the "stars" white or gray, but it was too late to change it. I do like how the red stands out. I can always make it again with the "stars" a different color. It gives a whole different look to the quilt.

I love a finished quilt, all nicely folded up at the foot of the bed, with the neat binding showing and the quilting stitches adding their wonderful puffiness to the whole thing.

I like it a lot because I also made one with red stars. It's on my bed now and looks cheery for the winter. I love that you handquilted yours. It looks great!

I just love your quilt. I have a set of spiderweb blocks that I need to make into a quilt some day. I hope it turns out as nice as yours is. Great job on the quilting too.
