When I was finally able to tear myself away from the artist's house, I rejoined the group at the site of the mosaics. The main one was too big to photograph, and the colors were very faint, so I didn't get a good picture of it. But there was an ancient carving, found in pieces and reassembled...
I don't know what it was used for. Maybe a gate at the entrance to a synagogue?
Some lovely smaller mosaics were also visible...
Tell me they don't look like quilt patterns!

And a thoroughly modern quilt design. I can see this one in solids, can't you?
It's really interesting when you realize that these mosaics are 2,000 years old.
