Blue Skies

I walked to my friend's house this morning. The sky was blue, birds were chirping, trees were flowering...

My friend had some flowers on her porch that I had never seen before. In yellow...

and in orange...

Ordinarily my heart would be singing from the beauty of the day, the vision of the flowers, the sound of bird calls in the
trees. But my heart is heavy...thinking of those who are suffering from the devastating natural disaster in Japan...and of the tragedy here in Israel, where a lovely young family was heartlessly murdered by terrorists... an innocent young couple and three of their children, including a three month old baby. Sometimes the world is a hard place to understand.
I took this picture this morning also. You can see the "rakefet", one of Israel's delicate wildflowers, growing right between the stones of a wall. I thought about this as I took the picture. Somehow it reminded me of humanity, and our tenacious ability to survive, to grow, and to blossom, even in the face of unbearable tragedy.
I pray that we will all be given the strength to survive, to grow, and blossom, no matter what our challenges are in life.

It’s difficult to reconcile the two at times – the beauty and the ugliness in the world.
Wishing you all the best.
