On the subject of pin-basting, the best tip I ever got from that darling Alex Anderson was from her book on machine quilting. She says to put the pins into the quilt while it's on the floor, leave them open, then pick the quilt up and close those pins while holding the quilt carefully on your lap. Well, that's worth a million dollars! Makes the whole thing a lot more bearable if you don't have be down on the floor closing the pins!
The other thing I love about this book is where she talks about her fear of free-motion quilting and how she had to work to overcome it. It gave me so much hope to read that. Now every time I am faced with that fear I say, I just have to get up in the morning and do it!
